The United States reacted after the transfer of power from the president of the Transitional Presidential Council (CPT), Laurent Saint-Cyr, to Prime Minister Didier Fils-Aimé. In a statement published on social media, the U.S. Embassy said it was ready to work with the head of government on stabilizing the country and organizing elections.
“The United States acknowledges the peaceful transfer of power from the coordinator of the Transitional Presidential Council (CPT), Laurent Saint-Cyr, to Prime Minister Fils-Aimé and the Council of Ministers, acting in an interim capacity to prepare for general elections in Haiti,” the statement reads.
Further on, the United States indicates that it is prepared to work with the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers on the stabilization of Haiti, which they consider a “shared priority.” “We recognize the responsibility incumbent upon the authorities called upon to guide the country at this critical time and underscore the importance of the efforts undertaken by Haitians themselves to restore stability, strengthen security, and advance the aspirations of the Haitian people,” the statement concludes.
