Haiti: the EDE party criticizes the fuel price increase and warns about its social impacts

The party Les Engagés pour le Développement (EDE) expressed, in a statement published on April 6, 2026, its deep concern about the recent increase in fuel prices in Haiti.

According to this statement, the increase reaches 29% for gasoline and 37% for diesel and kerosene, a decision that the party considers hasty and insufficiently discussed with the relevant stakeholders.

EDE believes that this measure risks significantly worsening the living conditions of the population, in a context already marked by high inflation and food insecurity affecting a large portion of households.

The party emphasizes that with inflation estimated at over 22%, this fuel price increase could trigger a chain effect on the prices of goods and services, further exacerbating precariousness.
