The conflict in the Middle East could plunge around 45 million people into food insecurity, with the risk potentially increasing further, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva warned on Thursday.

In her traditional curtain-raiser speech ahead of the spring meetings, which begin on Tuesday, the head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) added that the institution anticipates additional support requests from member countries “ranging somewhere between 20 billion and 50 billion dollars, at the lower end if the ceasefire holds.”
