For about a decade, Haiti has been going through a period of deep political turbulence, exacerbated by the heinous assassination of President Jovenel Moïse on July 7, 2021. There have been no elections in the past ten years. At the same time, there has been a continuous contraction of the national economy over the past seven years. This is a true economic depression with staggering social repercussions. The political crisis and economic depression feed off each other, plunging the country into a multidimensional crisis that affects both the institutions, the governance of the country, and severely deteriorates the living conditions of the population. Widespread insecurity and the proliferation of armed gangs are only expressions of this dual crisis.
