The situation is “under control” after Israel’s bombing on Monday of Iran’s largest petrochemical complex, but the extent of the damage remains to be assessed, according to the government news agency Irna.
“The fire has been contained. The situation is currently under control and the technical aspects as well as the extent of the damage are under investigation,” Irna said, citing a statement from the Iranian petrochemical company, which added that no injuries were reported.
Israel claimed on Monday attacks on the South Pars petrochemical complex in Assalouyeh, a key site in Iran’s energy sector and the production of petroleum derivatives, as well as the joint operation with Qatar of the world’s largest natural gas field.
