The Haitian government is launching a new phase of modernization of the national identification system with the project “Kat ou la,” accompanied by the provision of 500,000 identification cards for the benefit of the population.
On Tuesday, March 24, 2026, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé visited the headquarters of the National Identification Office (ONI), marking the official start of this initiative.
Surrounded by several state officials, including his chief of staff Me Axène Joseph and the director general of the ONI, Reynold Guerrier, the head of the government emphasized the importance of access to the identification card for all citizens.
According to him, this document constitutes an essential pillar of the democratic process, particularly in view of the upcoming general elections.
