The Haitian government has declared three days of national mourning and announced it will cover the funeral expenses of the victims following the tragedy at Citadelle Henry in the commune of Milot, where 25 people lost their lives and several others were injured.

“The government has declared three days of national mourning throughout the country, on Tuesday, April 14, Wednesday, April 15, and Thursday, April 16, 2026,” the Prime Minister’s office announced in a statement released on the evening of Sunday, April 12, 2026. This decision was adopted following an extraordinary cabinet meeting held a few hours earlier. During these three days, the Haitian flag will be flown at half-mast, the statement specified.

Furthermore, the government announced it will cover the funeral expenses of the deceased “as a sign of national solidarity with the bereaved families.”
