At least 25 people lost their lives on Saturday, April 11, 2026, during a festive event at the Citadelle Henry, located in the hills above the town of Milot, following a stampede. This updated, lower death toll was confirmed by Milot Mayor Wesner Joseph, interviewed by Le Nouvelliste. On Saturday afternoon, in the confusion of the initial hours of the tragedy, authorities had reported at least 30 deaths before revising their figure.
“We received 13 bodies at the Sacré-Cœur Hospital in Milot and we found 12 others at the Citadelle. About 30 injured people are also being treated at the hospital,” the mayor stated. The same death toll was also reported by the Haitian National Police, who announced the opening of an investigation.
Le Nouvelliste has learned that a ministerial delegation, composed of representatives from the Ministries of Culture and Communication, Tourism, the Interior, Justice, and the Environment, is expected in Milot this Sunday.
