Dealing with staff fluctuations: the challenge of relocated schools

Since last year, several schools have been forced to leave their historic premises due to insecurity. Some have moved into residential spaces, where one might feel like they are in a large house rather than in a proper school facility. Others have been relocated to cramped spaces, sharing classrooms and playgrounds with a sister school, or spread across several sites to accommodate all the students.

A minority have been able to find a relatively suitable space, but the cost of these facilities, often unforeseen, weighs heavily on already fragile budgets. In this context, changes in enrollment have become a real challenge: each school must deal with the number of students fluctuating according to safety and the location of the new sites.

Fluctuation in enrollment: a contrasting reality depending on the school

Some schools have been forced to leave their historic facilities to continue their activities elsewhere. This is the case of Nouveau Collège Bird, which had to abandon its site located on rue de l’Enterrement in February 2024. Since May 2024, the school has been operating on the Methodist campus, number 8, route de Frères, in Jacquet, Delmas 95. This relocation required several adjustments for the administration, teachers, and students.

“At first, cohabitation in this new space was a challenge, both organizationally and relationally. But thanks to concerted efforts and dialogue, students and staff were gradually able to adapt,” explains the management.
