The UN General Assembly on Wednesday proclaimed the African slave trade as the gravest crime against humanity, a fight led by Ghana which hopes to pave the way for apologies and justice.

The resolution was adopted amid applause with 123 votes in favor, 3 against (United States, Israel, Argentina) and 52 abstentions (including the United Kingdom and EU member states).
