The Decree on the migration from analog television to digital terrestrial television in Haiti finally published

In a statement dated April 7, 2026, the National Telecommunications Council (CONATEL) informs the entire Haitian community and audiovisual sector stakeholders in particular of the official publication of the decree regarding the migration from analog television to digital terrestrial television (DTT) in Haiti. According to CONATEL, the publication of this decree in the newspaper “Le Moniteur” on March 31, 2026, represents a major step forward in the process that has been underway for several years, through a series of workshops and technical and institutional consultations conducted since 2012, bringing together national and international stakeholders from the telecommunications and audiovisual sectors.This gradual transition is part of the international commitments of the Republic of Haiti, notably with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and reflects the public authorities’ desire to modernize the national audiovisual sector, improve the quality of broadcasting services, and ensure optimal management of the radio frequency spectrum, according to the statement.The migration to digital terrestrial television (DTT) thus constitutes a major structural reform, aimed at gradually replacing analog television with a more efficient digital system that complies with contemporary technological standards. The implementation of this transition involves a gradual organization including a phase of coexistence between analog and digital systems, followed by the gradual shutdown of the analog signal. It will be accompanied by appropriate technical, regulatory, and institutional measures, as well as support mechanisms intended for broadcasters and households, in order to facilitate adaptation to the new technological requirements. higher performance broadcasting,

The said institution also reaffirms its commitment to intensifying awareness and information activities on a national scale.

The publication of this decree thus constitutes a historic step in the modernization of the audiovisual sector in Haiti, paving the way for a more efficient, more diversified broadcasting system fully integrated into the digital era, concludes the statement.
