Neither date nor budget for the elections in Haiti…

When will elections be organized to take the country out of the endless cycle of transition? Neither the Electoral Council nor the government has the answer to this question. If the electoral calendar published last year scheduled the first round of the presidential and legislative elections for August 30 of this year, today, the CEP and the authorities want to align the National Pact for Stability with the electoral decree before talking about a date for the vote. If there is no date for the organization of elections, there is also no date for the end of the mandate of this third round of transition led by Alix Didier Fils-Aimé and his allies since February 7. “At the moment I am speaking to you, the date of August 30 no longer holds, and we have not yet planned a new date for the elections,” an electoral advisor told Le Nouvelliste on Thursday following a meeting with the Prime Minister. The president of the CEP confirms to the newspaper that for the moment there is no known date for the organization of the elections. “We are first working on harmonizing the electoral decree with the National Pact for stability before working on the electoral calendar,” Jacques Desrosiers told Le Nouvelliste.
