Rethinking Haitian diplomacy

It is concerning that we do not always respect our own state. Yet, diplomacy is a fundamental tool for prestige, influence, and defending a nation’s interests.

Diplomacy rests on three essential missions: representation, negotiation, and information. When a country is poorly represented abroad, the other two missions become almost impossible to fulfill effectively.
We must never forget that diplomacy is one of the main instruments a country has at its disposal to defend its interests, attract resources and investment (economic diplomacy), strengthen its security (preventive diplomacy), and restore its sovereignty.
