Haiti: Two ISPAN and MCC officials dismissed after the Citadelle tragedy

The Ministry of Culture and Communication announced on Monday the dismissal of two departmental officials in the north of the country, following the tragedy that occurred on April 11 at the Citadelle Laferrière.

In a statement signed by Minister Emmanuel Ménard, the institution cited “serious negligence” and “biased inaction,” pointing to shortcomings in the management of the historical site.

The departmental director of the Institute for the Protection of National Heritage (ISPAN) was dismissed for “serious negligence,” while the departmental director of the ministry was sanctioned for “biased inaction.”

The ministry specifies that these decisions are based on Article 198 of the decree revising the General Statute of the Civil Service, concerning professional misconduct. Furthermore, the authorities indicate that the judicial investigation is continuing to determine responsibility for the organization of the activity that led to the tragedy.
